the commute times there are far longer because inner Tokyo is the only point with jobs and things of interest in an agglomeration of 38 pypo. no matter where you live, you have to reach the same spots as everyone else every day, that makes for brutal rush hours

it may or may not be similar in randstad, but I think not, Amsterdam is not the only place with jobs, there's also Rotterdam, The Hague and whatnot
