Why are politicians so ugly?

I was at my father's place yesterday, helping him paint the apartment. He lives in a rather liberal, inner-city part of Budapest. After the work was done we went to a nearby craft beer bar. It's the kind of place where artsy types and urban upper-middle class people go to blow off steam.

Viktor Orbán spoke on TV, and the owner of the local vegan pastry shop said,

"You know what? Viktor is doing a good job after all. The economy has taken off, there are no pro-Palestinian protests, and we are the only ones in Europe who are standing up for peace. In contrast, Peti the Poloska is a wife beater who lies to everyone and withholds EU money from family businesses like mine. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll be casting my vote for Viktor in 26."

I then looked around and to my surprise I saw only people nodding in agreement. There were a few more "Who else?" and "Only Fidesz!" comments from nearby tables. Then without a word the bartender walked over to the jukebox and put on Roxette's "Listen to Your Heart". Everyone sang along.
