what does demiurge mean

The creator of the material realm. Not evil according to Plato, but the actual Satan according to gnostics

They're both wrong tho. There's no creator

"evil god" who created the material world and made us all suffer here

it’s a pretty picture but if you were actually there you’d get eaten up by ticks and mosquitos and you’d get heat syncope or something

The word demiurge is an English word derived from demiurgus, a Latinised form of the Greek δημιουργός or dēmiurgós. It was originally a common noun meaning "craftsman" or "artisan", but gradually came to mean "producer", and eventually "creator."

δημιουργία means “creation” (literally “prople making”)
In modern Greek it mean just creativity

Serbia is one of the nicest countries in Europe, I'd love to live there

prople making

people* making
Same root as in democracy

They're both wrong tho. There's no creator

I have no idea what any of that means
Some kind of mini god?
Kinda clearer thank you

In a good or bad way?

Not a mini god. A god. The creator of all that exists in this plane

Or the biblical satan if you're a gnostic

Bad.

Ja razumijem zašto bi srb bez turskog bika mislio tako.

He's speaking in tongues!

turskog

Lucky forest? Alternatively trip forest.

OK then just say god, no need to use femoid reddit terms like demiurge

Fedora is such a 2012 meme. Not one cares about god anymore

maybe one day you'll understand that different words have different meanings

it's a more pretentious way of saying God

So demiurge is a type of god, or the other way around?
whats the diffirence bewtween gnostic satan and regular old satan?

demiurge is a type of god

it's the creator deity in gnosticism. and it's evil.

asked chatgtp because no one will give me straight fucking answer

Prompt: whats the diffirence between god and demiurge, dont give me a word sallad, list the diffirnces in points

1. Origin and Status
God: Supreme, uncreated, eternal being. The source of all existence.

Demiurge: A created or subordinate being. Not the ultimate source, but a lower entity.

2. Role in Creation
God: Creates everything ex nihilo (out of nothing).

Demiurge: Shapes the universe from pre-existing chaotic matter.

3. Moral Nature
God: All-good, perfect, benevolent.

Demiurge: Often seen as flawed, ignorant, or even evil (especially in Gnosticism).

4. Relationship to the Material World
God: Creates the material world as inherently good (in most traditions, e.g., Christianity).

Demiurge: Often creates a corrupt or imperfect material world, sometimes as a prison for souls.

5. View in Different Traditions
God: Worshipped in monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam).

Demiurge: Appears in Gnosticism, Platonism, and some esoteric traditions. Not usually worshipped—often opposed.

6. Knowledge and Awareness
God: Omniscient (all-knowing).

Demiurge: Limited knowledge, often unaware of higher divine realities (especially in Gnostic belief).

7. Freedom and Authority
God: Absolute, sovereign, answers to no one.

Demiurge: Acts within limits, sometimes unknowingly carries out a higher will.

So the Brazilian was incorrect
Its not god after all, more like a lesser diety or mini god, but not the ultimate one
This is some kind of polytheism

still not sure what gnosticism even is
seems like some form of edgy spiritualism, like atheism but spiritual

gnosticism is wacky early Christian sect with it's own theology.
Demiurge is considered as lesser god that created this world and some gnostics considered to be equivalent of bibical Yahweh or Old Testament god, some consider it as Satan. In either way it's ruler of this material world and kind of subordinate to real, big God

Gnostics say demiurge is a malevolent being which created to material universe. The true god is transcendental and exists beyond it

Hmmm, seems kinda polytheistic

Also, all these posts explaining the demiurge to me are completely contradictory lmao
Very telling

It is. Because Old Testament is actually polytheistic. There is mentioned of other gods (like Chemosh BTFOing Israelites, Asherah being wife/mother of Yahweh, uncertainty if Yahweh and El are the same thing).
Christians kind of melded everything together and called it just God in their translations or deleted references to them (there is like 40 references to Asherah in original writings, mostly removed or mistranslated).

it's wrong to say Christians, it was Jews in like 7th century BC, they kind of melded everything together and become monotheistic, before that they were polytheistic, but the references to the old gods and entities are all over Old Testament.

gnosticism was not monolithic religion more like collection of fringe early Christians beliefs, so different contradictory beliefs existed

yes because gnosticism describes it differently to platonic spiritualism, in the same way christ and allah are different

This really does feel like astrology for schizos.
There’s just God (omnibenevolent, omnipotent, omnivident and omniscient) and the rest is our physiology that we fail to understand and thus effectively control.

For example, the lust (which is often attributed to le EBIL spirit) is just oxytocin defficiency or trying to compensate some hormonal defficiency with oxytocin.
These shitty hormonal defficiencies got passed down in our genes because it allowed our otherwise isolationist and introverted ancestors to stick together and increased our chances of survival.

The modern state of Israel really says a lot about Judaism and Gnosticism if that's the case...

It means craftman in Greek. It is a being who shapes the physical world.
They create ex materia, as in they shape the mater that already exists( as opposed to creation ex nihilo which would mean they create out of nothingness).
The idea is that the demiurge crafts the world of matter by observing the world of forms.
In Platonic theology, which is where theconcept comes from, there are multiple beings who have demiurgic powers. This is why objects have intrinsic symbolic value. It's because they are symthemata, or "signatures" of a God. For example a horse is symbolic of Poseidon, or gold of Helios.
Later when Christianity was still young and many different currents inside of it were coexisting with quite different ideas from one another, there was a Christian movement called gnosticism, which interpreted the God of the old testament as a demiurge. But while Platonists see the creator God as a good being the gnostics saw them as an evil false god who imprisons souls inside of matter.
Platonism, and Greek philosophy in general, was quite influential and at the core lf many Christian movements. But out of these movements Gnosticism you could say is one of the most different from what Christianity ended up being today.
It's also an inversion of Platonism.

Gnosticism has come back lately in online circles for some reason, it's been bubbling for a while under the surface. So when you see someone saying demiurge on the internet, especially non philosophically/religiously inclined places, they usually mean an evil false God.
Why is gnosticism gaining popularity instead of something like Platonism, which has a more robust theology? I think it's both a combination of being disenchanted with societal authorities figures, and actually rightly being wary of them like with CIA, and being able to say they have select knowledge above the unenlightened ones who make up the vast majority of people, both religious and atheists alike.

There seems to be two types of Gnosticism as far as i understand

Early Gnosticism = some kind of early Christian mysticism, polytheism, possibly influence from pre Christian pagan European beliefs that synthesized with Christianity

Late Gnosticism = edgy spiritual atheism

the demiurge is cool in the same way cthulhu is cool.
it comes up occasionally in pop culture. persona 5 is the biggest one. kult is vertly gnostic.

This seems to confirm my suspicions as i laid out here

SMT is very influenced by Gnosticism in general.
But whenever the idea of a demiurge comes out it is always in a Gnostic manner, never in the original Platonist manner. I guess it's cool and edgy to say the creator is evil, corrupt or flawed. I get it. But beyond pop culture it seems like many people actually do take up Gnostic beliefs.
Eh, Christianity IS already religion from Judea mixed with pre-Christisn beliefs, theology and philosophy. That's why Christians talk about concepts like Logos or Hypostasis, for example.
I would say it's just a different way of integrating them.
Personally, I could see how you could read the Old Testament and see an evil God. But if you sre at the point of rejecting the idea that the Old Testament represents an evil God, why not just reject the whole thing and just become a Platonist. Seeing God as explicitly evil, amd hating His creation, is a Gnostic thing specifically. Not Pagan, not Hebrew, you could say it's their definimg feature.

Gnostisism evolved over time and even early gnostisism had various different versions
Gnostisism is primarily know for rejecting the material world but I would say that late gnostisism has been taken over by new agers. Alot of people who claim to be gnostic today also say that they don't believe that evil exists

Dumbbaiting. A new low

Shut up

Aislop is wrong you fucking retard

before Christianity was what it was today it was called Gnosticism which has a wildly different creation story/divine hierarchy
go read about it

Gnosticism was big before too.
Matrix plot is 100% gnosticism

Seeing God as explicitly evil, amd hating His creation, is a Gnostic thing specifically

So these Gnostics believe in the abrahamic god's existence but reject / hate him?

You're pretending to be stupid for you's

Im just asking questions

So these Gnostics believe in the abrahamic god's existence but reject / hate him?

You could say so yes. But they see Jesus Christ as a true God who came to liberate mankind.

Not reslly, there were many different kinds of Christianity and Gnostics were just a loose movement inside of the broader Christian one.
I see what you mean, I usually interpreted as an allegory of the cave of sorts, but it makes more sense to see it as a gnostic tale and was probably what was intended.
