is German engineering actually good or overrated?
Is German engineering actually good or overrated?
is German German actually German or German?
both
good is relative, better than their competition in many fields
Don't most of their trains no longer even work?
germans didn't invent flying wings, jets, or liquid fuel rockets
it's a meme, the only thing germans have sucessfully engineered is a society and country where nothing ever changes
your picrel is the answer, literally first turbojet which is shaped modern aircraft so i can fly to spain for 30€
The fact that they managed to build OP pic related while being carpet bombed by the power that be of their time and completely isolated from the world says that yes it was good, however I dont think thats the case in 2025
every kid wants a Porsche
first supersonic jets
first ballistic missiles
first to use submarines to a useful extent
invented thermodynamics
The list goes on.
the autism allows for well made products, but it's that same autism which makes repairability a problem
perhaps not invented, but revolutionised, absolutely.
yeah but the british jets
with radial compressors, lel. and goddard's rockets were on the level of water bottle rockets, and if you look at the A4's design it's completely different from goddard's. but please show me his turbine that was a key feature of the v2, or his guidance system for the ballistic trajectory
yes..but its also very german that they wasted resources developing it instead of just pumping out cheap simple fighters that could make a difference, and once they eventually had the me jet, they didnt use it in the most effective way at the time in the war but insisted to use for its initially inteded use as a bomber when what they needed was fighters capable of taking down allied bombers and the me could do that really well.
no, they tried to buildt rocket fighters for that...
Not really. They are top 20 but they have weak areas. I don't really count things invented nearly 100 years ago as current indications of the level engineering because I'm not retarded.
That's because of Ryanair you mong,
Germans make great designs and concepts, but everything is designed by engineers on paper, not mechanics in practice. The Tiger tank blew its tranny constantly.
Engines stalled
No terminal guidance
Irish invention
Boltzmann roped
Germans either revolutionise an existing technology, or invent a completely unfeasible but cool technology someone else perfects. They almost never do both.
The greatest German invention was when VAG fucked over the cancer that is killing Germany (the green party) and made the TDIs that "passes emissions" and accelerates cooking the 3rd world.
Funny thing is von Braun was born in Poland, and of all the places he lived he lived in America the longest.
meh, i think this is an exaggeration. everyone shits on the tiger tanks as well when it was never ment to be produced in high numbers and the focus was on the pz iv and panther. or just look up the production numbers of german fighters by type
that being said, the jet engines coul run on lower quality fuel, and while needing maintanence every 10 hours they could be switched in less than an hour so you have a bunch of spare one you could rotate around
they were more pragmatic than pop his wants you to believe. feel like the pendulum has swung in the other direction when it comes to germany in wwii
The Tiger tank blew its tranny constantly
yeah, no, the tiger was surprisingly reliable. early panther models, yes. but also exaggerated with a post war survival bias where the french tested tanks that were left in the field
is overrated engineering actually good or German?
there's a frog in your cockpit
They used to be good at it, the problems start when they try to "cheapen out"
That's like saying Alan Turing wasn't that important to the development of computer science because his computer was much more primitive than the ones we have today. Those German scientists would be the first ones to tell you how revolutionary Goddard's experiments were in the field of rocketry.
maybe, but from what i've read goddard was highly paranoid and secret of his developments, so the german rocket programme during wwii was pretty much completely independent from his work, and vastly more capable to the point they reached outer space and put von braun in charge of nasa
sciencedirect.com
Cheap single fighters cannot climb high and fast enough to intercept bombers and if they could they'd get shot down easily since they would have little to no energy for speed
von braun himself said goddard got him where he was.
perhaps after wwii. really don't get the revisionims, credit where credit is due. what was the first object to reach outer space? do tell me
they were innovative in terms of technology because they had lots of different firms competing on wunderwaffe designs
but that also crippled their logistics
germans take geoengineering for something positive and elegance for under performance
today everything for germany is shit
It's good when it works until it doesn't.
Three features developed by Goddard appeared in the V-2: (1) turbopumps were used to inject fuel into the combustion chamber; (2) gyroscopically controlled vanes in the nozzle exhaust stabilized the rocket until external vanes in the air could do so; and (3) excess alcohol was fed in around the combustion chamber walls, so that a blanket of evaporating gas protected the engine walls from the combustion heat. [88]
The Germans had been watching Goddard's progress before the war and became convinced that large, liquid fuel rockets were feasible. General Walter Dornberger, head of the V-2 project, used the idea that they were in a race with the U.S. and that Goddard had "disappeared" (to work with the Navy) as a way to persuade Hitler to raise the priority of the V-2.
German rocket scientists literally used Goddard as a boogieman to get Hitler to give them more money. Meanwhile the US government thought rocketry was a dead end so they didn't give Goddard any money.
Bunnies. What the actual fuck? What the actual fuck? Hmmmm? What the actual fuck? Hmmmm? What the actual fuck? Hmm? XD stop it please. Later on.
now explain how their copy of goddard's rockets were completely different in design, not even using the same fuel, and using leeching off the propellant to pump the fuel into the combustion chamber instead of a compressed nitrogen tank, while being vastly more capable by a couple orders of magnitide. the more you look into the less this narrative makes any sense whatsoever. the only thing i can make out of it it's is american copium a former SS member got put in charge of their space program so the only thing they can do is trying to belittle his achievemts even when it's completely ridiculous
and i posted an actual source from a historian, you did not.
now explain how their copy of goddard's rockets were completely different in design
How similar is the computer you're posting on now to a Turing Machine?
actually the me262 did serve it's purpose as high altitude interceptor, and it did take down whole loads of bombers before the allies had to get fight bases on the continent or get superchargers
the more pertinent question is given a nation on the losing front in logistics or manpower can it develop and field new weapons that put the fear in the opposing forces, japan certainly tried but they failed in this regard
so compared to a similar situation german wunderwaffen were better than all the competition
Frank H. Winter (born 1942) is an American historian and writer. He is the retired Curator of Rocketry of the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) of the Smithsonian Institution of Washington, D.C. Winter is also an internationally recognized historian of rocketry and spaceflight and the author of several landmark books besides numerous articles and papers on these topics.
but surely doesn't know what he's talking about
appeal to authority
Why are Europeans so prone to this?
this doesn't even make any sense you fucking retard. it's like comparing a prehistory bow and arrow to a machine gun
and please explain how the german's opy was completely different, that i would like to know. apparently they managed to get their hands on goddard's research and do it vastly different. again, it's cope that doesn't make any sense. try to use your head every once in a while
lel, you don't even know wgat appeal to authority even is. yes you're retarded. it's when your math teacher predicts the weather, not when citing someone qualified in a certain subject. stop embarrasing yourself, jesus. i'm starting to feel sorry for you
anyway, no point in arguing with retards
Loses argument
ESL English skills go out the window
