I don't watch tv, I haven't gone on the website and done the thing where you opt out, I've never had anyone come to my door or send a letter asking me to pay in 30 years.

A lot of people think the BBC has been getting worse over the last 10 years so if they tried to make it something you actually have to pay people wouldn't be very happy.

No, not really. They have like 20 niche channels. Times are tough and everybody has to cut back and save money -- except for the state media. In fact they just got a raise through parliament, an increase in the the TV taxes.
There is private TV, but it's been encrypted for a decade now I think, and you have to pay fees for a decoder, about 100 Euros per year. (In addition to the mandatory TV tax.) I'm not paying that, so fuck them.

As I wrote above: It applies to every household. It doesn't matter if the household has a TV or not, you must pay it. It's a little over $20 per month. If you get cable or streaming, you pay that on top of that.

Last time I heard regular radio was when I was in hospital and couldn't sleep at night. At night all the federal stations share one shared programme, and channel 3 (out of 6) features classical music from 22 until 6 in the morning every night.
