Had Nokia adopted android quickly like Samsung, we could have stayed in the game. I own few of the late Symbian Nokia's. Their build quality was much better than similarly priced Samsung's and iPhone's. Just compare the Nokia N8 to the original Samsung Galaxy. Had the Nokia ran android rather than symbian it would have been much more successful.

Young people today probably don't have any idea how big of a leap iPhone was. Before that all the touchscreen smartphones used shitty resistive touch screens you had to use some kind of stylus. Not just the screen was different, the OS itself was not made for finger, all the interfaces were small and awkward and you had to use a stylus. I preferred classic phones before the iPhone because using a touch screen phone was much more difficult while walking, etc.
Another point which is not obvious these days (because all phones look very similar) is that the first iPhone looked extremely elegant. It was not bulky.
I think there were many companies that reacted much more nicely to the iPhone than Nokia (like HTC, they used to have pretty nice interfaces) and still went down. I never liked Samsung phones desu it feels like they remained because it is a family conglomerate with the government behind it
