Has technology grown stagnant as of late?

1990 to 2001: We went Sonic The Hegehog to Ocarina of Time to Resident Evil

2015 to 2025: The Witcher 3 to Elden Ring

Most of the tech companies are about design. A ThinkPad running Linux will be better than any macbook.

Very obviously yes

Yeah, no shit

Moore's law has been in decline for 15 years and finally halts this year. There are 3 big improvements left to ordinary pcs (2nm transitors, vertical stacking, and DSAs. All three already exist and are in the deployment phase now. So after this year and the next year consumer level PCs are going to stagnate, you'll only see small gradual improvements for a long time

I wouldn't care if things became more efficient/cheaper but it's pretty ridiculous to see morons talk abut the PS6 potentially being 8k when PS5 can't even do 4k properly

Also perceptual gains are even slower than actual technical gains (a modest increase in processing power allowing for slightly higher res textures or whatever produces very little improvement you can notice). The big thing that is happening is that mid/budget grade devices are becoming much cheaper, cooler, and more powerful - I just got a 250$ tablet that's as good as a 700$ one wouldve been a few years ago - but that will only continue a little while longer

Okay I'm creeped out now. I genuinely remember this reply coming right after this oneand these two not even being there.

Anon discovers bots.
Which is an area of violent progress.

I had typos so I deleted and reposted

graphics pretty much peaked with crysis, no progress has been made since 2008 because of hard diminishing returns. 1% better looking graphics take 50% more computing power.

I seriously despise these new iphones solely because they keep making these bigger and bigger hideous fucking cameras

The PS5 only came out in 2020, and even then, many developers continued developing games both for PS4 and PS5 because more people had PS4s. So in practice the new gen has barely even started. Steam statistics also show that a marginal percentage of people are playing on top tier hardware. Hell, most people just play a couple live service games for like eight years anyway, so there's not really any point spending a massive amount of time and effort on producing the absolute best cutting edge grafics for a ten hour single player game, like back in the PS3 and PS4 days. It's not a selling point anymore, since games just look good in general now. These days there are more surprise hits in the indie and small developer space, like Balatro last year, which is just a simple card game

We are closer to ps6 than ps5 by release date. As we get older time goes by faster but i still find it crazy

On that note, RDR2 is nearly ten years old but it still looks fantastic. There's so much you can do with just good lighting and that fancy fog tech, rather than just adding polygons and higher res textures. In recent years they've been dicking around with that raytracing meme, which is a massive performance hog but people haven't really even figured out how to use it properly yet, in theory it's a big improvement for visuals but in practice you can barely even tell the difference or it just makes things look worse, since people have learned to make good baked lighting over several decades

when should i get a new gaming pc? 2027?

Just buy it you wont get the time back dont be a pennypincer

let's hope the same happens to AI

I had this same feeling in this thread

Yes. Basically if America invents something it is stolen by India, China.
There is no gain to invent anymore
It costs insane amounts and if you do success it will be stolen

By the way the technology stealing and refusing to admit or pay for it done by China and India was predicted to cause this 20 years ago.
We have entered a New Dark age until invention is rewarded. Don't blame us.

Come on

All day pro China this pro India that
Here you go
Tell them to invent shit we will copy it
Go on
Or enjoy the new dark age and nothing changes in your lifetime at all
You all are so fucking smart
We are dumb Americans

Fix the fucking world. Go get China to do it. Go get India.

What am I talking about lol. No one here matters and nothing will change in our lives. And you guys are part of the reason why

So fucking come on invent shit

True, rdr2 looks so good. In my opinion, what makes a game look good isn't the hardware or the graphical fidelity but the art direction. Thats why a game like ridge racer type 4 still looks good almost over 25 years later. Its all about art direction.

It's part of why it feels weird so much time has passed since 2014 or so. Tech just feels mostly the same besides AI being a thing

Yeah they say days are blending in together. 15 years ago every new samsung phone or iphone was massive news. I dint think anyone gave a shit about the iphone 16 release. Or samsung 25. Im not saying they didnt sell well, just at least in italy 0 hype about it

Silence retard you don't get to bitch you've grown lazy.
Ofcourse other nations will out pace you in time.
The average american is fat, lazy, retarded, overworked and without any motivation

i unironically had the same feeling with a thread this week, time to take a break

Used to be a big deal when a new model of car came out but now no ones cares since they're all the same anyway. Way of a mature technology

E=mc2+AI is the next step in technological innovation

tesla's dancing robot is pretty impressive ngl that thing can definitely replace factory workers very soon. waymo is very very extremely close to replacing uber drivers here in california
and ai is extremely close to making infinite porn of anything

It’s been stagnant ever since TVs.
All tech follows the TV innovation path

and ai is extremely close to making infinite porn of anything

2 more weeks

At least phones are still improving. The new mercedes c and e class for example are dogshit with mcdonalds interior. S class too

jeet intellect

The PS5 only came out in 2020

"only" 5 years
nes to snes, snes to 64, 64 to gamecube, gamecube to wii. all 5 years

ps5 came out during covid thats probably why the 5 years felt like 2 months. i remember it felt like my life went by 10 times waiting for the ps4

welcome to the wrong side of history

we got TELEPATHY this year and you fuckers are complaining??

her stupid halo thing morphs when she moves and her face looks more like a korean mmo than a real human being
i can already jerk off to videos of real women. this is no substitute.

i use this bote

Nta but I've been hearing this bullshit 50 years. You are clearly an Indian the way you talk.
So let's see those new inventions I've been hearing about 50 years. Surely the rest of the world was dragged into this age by America alone and they weren't just ripping us off for the last 40 years. Where are they. Not promises or ten years from now. Where are they? 8 billion other people 3.5 in India and China, surely you guys have invented something in the last decade and not just ripped it off America. Where is it right now? You got holograms? Maybe fusion? Maybe new power source? Where is it right now in mass production mode.
Or shut the fuck up and start inventing.

sure feels like it
