in the late 2010's they relaxed the laws about opening times and so for a couple years or so I would have a local hypermarket open 24/7. how strange to suddenly have access to anything and everything at any time. eventually they would come to stop doing that and have some smaller grocery stores open 24/7 instead while the biggest ones are only open until 23

There were dozens of restaurants, stores, all kinds of places open 24/7 here before COVID. After COVID there is not a single place in my town or even hours away open 24/7 besides the gas station.

We have an extremely small number of independent 24hr convenience stores, all in our two “biggest” “cities” (I live in the third largest, and we have zero.) Otherwise, shopping here closes early and is not open at all on Sundays, as a general rule. There are a limited number of exceptions, at least regarding Sundays—shops in train stations and little immigrant corner shops are often open 7 days per week. But for an overwhelming majority of the population, it’s impossible to buy anything after 11PM at the absolute latest (for normal/chain/mainstream shops, it’s rare to be open later than 8PM).

So yes, Switzerland is actually a shithole, or close enough.
