Top 10 greatest Finns of all time according to a vote in 2004

top 10 greatest Finns of all time according to a vote in 2004

Most of them are fennoswedes?

5/10 are Fennoswedes, Mikael Agricola is debatable
only foreigners imply that they arent Finns

About three were(Mannerheim, Ehnrooth, Sibelius).
Agricola is debatable(and that debate leads nowhere since it's a meaningless social construct that didn't exist for that era).
Lönnrot learned Swedish in school. In his time 90% of West Finns had Swedish names.

No Simo Hayha?

oh yeah I didnt consider that some of them are just names but I did think Lönnrot and Kivi were Fennoswedes

tarja halonen

look at it this way
Simo Häyhä is a war veteran in a war where people have actual family that fought in that. For foreigners Häyhä might be a someone they can pick out and "worship" but the dynamics are different when you are an actual Finn

not a single race car driver

Would Darude get the top spot if they voted again today?

You ain't seen nothing yet

Literal nobodies bruh finland is so sad

Johansson was probably a Finnish speaker since it's an exceedingly low class last name. Anyway, trying to explain socioeconomic factors and such advanced things to a Swede is a waste of time. Just go extinct already white racist.

I bet if a list of similar thing would be done in most countries they would be nobodies since these lists arent for pop idols or e-celebs or anything like that

pretty much everyone in this list are politicians or related to it except for number 6

only boomers vote in these so no

both Ehnrooth and Sibelius were Finnish speakers since childhood

I know only Mannerheim, Kekkonen, Sibelius.

he seems to be more well known among foreigners on the internet

Ehnrooth

he went to Swedish speaking schools and he obviously sounded Swedish speaking since he couldnt really speak Finnish informally in anyway. Of course they spoke Finnish, all of them spoke Finnish

in hindsight it does seem ridiculous

With that logic there's barely any left since all but a few inbred schizos in Ostrobothnia are bilingual. A sensible definition would be someone who has two parents who were Swedish speakers and who spoke Swedish at home as a child.

Where's Matti Nykänen?

criminal drunk who happened to be good at one specific sport
I think there are few atheles before him

Tried to find something like that in my country. Found something about "the most prominent figures in history" survey.
So it goes by the shares of votes like:
1. Stalin (ruler)
2. Lenin (ruler)
3. Pushkin (poet, writer)
4. Peter the Great (ruler)
5. Putin (ruler)
6. Gagarin (first man in space)
7. Georgiy Zhukov (military commander)
8. Brezhnev (ruler)
9. Mendeleyev (scientist)
10. Lomonosov (scientist)

Being the best to ever skijump isn't just "good", and he made a banger music album

yeah he learned to speak Finnish rather late in modern standards

Repin is missing from this list

no linus?

The perfidious bourgois Swede vs the honest Finnish worker.

I MEANT TO TYPE BOURGEOIS FUUUUUUUUUUCK

nerds know him but no one else really. Unironically his father might be more known

Workers are and have always been trash, though. Half of Finnish speakers were farmers on the White side but didn't have enough military training in academies and the Czar's army to be in command positions.

Mikael AGRICOLA

vgh

What is his daddy famous for?

The raped and mind-broken peasant has always fought against his own interests

he is a politician and was once a presidential candidate for the Swedish peoples party
not the most known one but just because he was a candidate for president once might put him before Linus who has done like 3 interviews in Finnish his entire life anyway

Owning your own land seems comfy enough. It's rather the workershit who has always fought against the interest of mankind by cramping themselves in cities and living like the bugs that they are.

The reactionary landed gentry famously fought for redistribution of land to the peasantry.

what about Linus Torvalds?

Mannerheim has that villain's look but i'm suprised that he's actually quite the opposite of that.

mannerheim sounds absolutely badass. is it common name in finnish?

Why do thirdies think that fighting for their interests means fighting to be a colony of the ivans? What type of brain damage is this?

It's a swedish or even german (or even ashkenazi) surname.

its German surname, he comes from German family and in Finland his family was Fennoswedish meaning he spoke Swedish

What about Spurdo?

Mannerheim's father's family came from Germany, from where the ancestor of the family moved to Sweden in the 1640s. The family was long thought to have originated in the Netherlands. King Charles XI of Sweden ennobled Augustin Marhein in 1693 and the original surname was changed to Mannerheim

Mannerheim's great-great-grandfather Carl Erik was the first Mannerheim to move to Finland

I blame religion

Mannerheim has that villain's look

Literally the most stereotypical Fennoswede ever. By his own admission, he can barely speak Finnish.

There's interviews of him in Finnish from the 90s. His is alright, not fully fluent but better than those Eurovision guys. Having lived in America for decades probably eroded his language skills though.

By his own admission, he can barely speak Finnish.

Lol, it seems that to live in Finland, it is enough to know English

By his own admission, he can barely speak Finnish.

which I've always found weird since in this video he speaks perfect native level Finnish

Friendly reminder that Yle added Halonen and I think Ylppö there because people actually voted for a drunk wife-beating ski jumper and a really tall guy.

elites vs workers

Finns are so buckbroken, they have no elites of their own even under Russian Empire. Eternal serfs

Also to be honest majority of elites (also in Sweden) are German or are Swedish of German origin. Swedes are also buckbroken and lower tier than Germans

By his own admission, he can barely speak Finnish.

watching his interviews he is fluent but he just cannot talk about his work

If your ancestors had recognized the kraut supremacy, Poland could have been as developed as Finland.

So he can speak it normally? But he downplays it? What kind of 4D chess do Fennoswedes play? I'm scared.

Eternal

Vast majority of wealthy people now are Finnish speakers though.
iltalehti.fi/verokone

kek there are more Poles on the capitalist side in the Finnish civil war than there are ethnic Finns

So he can speak it normally? But he downplays it? What kind of 4D chess do Fennoswedes play? I'm scared.

its his third language and the most recent interview in Finnish (like 10 years ago) he gets very spergy and autistic when he forgets words like hardware (as in CPU) in Finnish. He is rusty nowadays

Germans never gave us cultural autonomy like Swedes gave Finns.
If Germans didn't try to germanize and protestantize us by force then we would have probably accepted their rule.

Swedes gave Finns

Russians gave to Finns, Swedes were sanctioned by the Russians and put into a sideline as it wasn't their land anymore

If Germans didn't try to germanize and protestantize us by force then we would have probably accepted their rule.

delusional moron. We rejected their rule over 1000 years ago and won every battle against them despite having 1/8 of their population back then

People of Fennoswedic origins are still the most relevant part of the country

Russians gave to Finns, Swedes were sanctioned by the Russians and put into a sideline as it wasn't their land anymore

what you forget though is that Finland was never really de facto part of the Russian empire and it was on purpose, because Russians feared that the populance would revolt. So Russians came but left everything the same, all the Fennoswedish elites etc. were still there, the old system was still there, nothing changed except later down the line Finland got more autonomy and few czars later they tried to take it away

Finnish language became the official language though, that was changed before there was only Swedish

Russian rule embraced ethnic Finnish peasantry to be more relevant compared to traditional Swedes in the south and west

they did it for wrong reasons though

So it's just a feeling thing and not quantifiable through any statistic? I guess it's like the impression that Poles are eternally poor people living in a Russia-tier post-commie shit-hole while Poland is actually doing okay these days, but you'll never shake off that image since it's so deeply embedded in peoples consciousnesses.

I'm quite impressed by how quickly Swedes managed to turn their image from paradise with blonde girls to shithole with bombs and rapes.

The austrians weren't that chuddy. I think if it weren't for WWI, they would have given autonomy to the colonized slavs.

you just can't get over the fact that Russians has created your country your identity and you've never amounted to anything yourself independently.

Many people still live in commie blocks, but majority of ppl live in individual houses, more people in the west live in flats than in Poland (by percentage)

Finland was a possession of the german Gottorp-Holstein-Romanov dynasty. What does Russia have to do with it? And they did not interfere in Finland's affairs. The swedish-german nobility continued to rule it as it had ruled. They even had their own army, the basis of any state.

In fact, the pioneers of early finnish nationalism were the fennoswedes themselves, the Kalevala was compiled by a fennoswede, for example. Without any pressure from Petersburg

In general, the history of Finland is a rare example when both nations do not have the thirdie brownoid intellect and they interact with each other without chimpouts and ethnic cleansings.
