Playing Cyberpunk 2077 in my TL. Surprisingly language dense, like half the game is just pure dialogue and you can pick up snippets from books to read.

you learn russian to get a yellow wife
i learn russian to die in a holy war against the ZOG
we are not the same

Globohomo

:/

Globohomo Russia

:O

i have a new revolutionary idea for language learning: i called it verb-oriented ankigooning.
a common critique to ankigooning is that "things are taken out of context", which can be argued to be true.
but if you think about it, there is one specific part of speech that IS the context: the verb.
if you ankigoon, but filter your decks to contain only verbs, you're getting all the pros of ankigooning without the cons.
thoughts?

file.png - 1086x992, 977.95K

no russian has ever called me chud.

just ankigoon sentences mane

But chud isn't an insult. I proudly call myself one.

just kidding i desperately want a russian wife

chud is a slur that the chud community has proudly appropriated. it's like niggers calling each other nigger.
you are NOT me

so true

and im NOT a virgin

i am though

alright today im starting the moviegooning strategy. im watching Falling Down in russian for the first time out of 30.

and please stop slandering me while im not here

platform shoes

around this time last year I was watching Peppa Pig for input

How are you able to use cuneiform? I was thinking of finding a way to use signs similar to how one uses a japanese keyboard (i.e. typing a word and using space to select the signs), but I have no idea how one would do that.

whenever i see an ESL talk about how they didn't even have to study english and just picked it up naturally like their native language by spending time on the internet i start seething
ESLs have it so easy.

pajeet.png - 1280x720, 1.53M

most of them had to study grammar in school
immersing just made it easier

i seethe when i think of people knowing a language worse than me

seek help

ths
halft the people where i live cant even read the instructions on a cup of instant noodles in english

You should feel lucky. You can pick whatever language you want to learn based on whatever you want, and you can often fall back on English if you need to. There are a lot of foreigners here who are learning both English and Portuguese for the first time and suck at both of them.

dothead

pajeet chimps

No way theses are real

I just looked up the words for “I agree” in Akkadian and then pasta’d the Akkadian syllables from the Wikipedia article.

I don't actually know Akkadian, I just wanted to shitpost “anaku amaggar” in its cuneiform rendering.

How do you keep the feeling that you are improving?
If I compare myself last week vs now I feel I haven't improved much, and this tears me down. How do you keep the high of feeling like you are progressing?
The you're worthless feelings are winning again

english is objectively easy, and it's literally everywhere these days. bilingualism is 10x easier for ESLs to achieve because english is everywhere and they can easily immerse without even having to leave their home country via the internet. you'd have to be a literal braindead monkey to not be able to pick some of it up
even the monkeys who can only slur out a broken, discombobulated string of mispronounced words are welcomed and understood by the majority of native english speakers
meanwhile if you pronounce one phoneme wrong or your accent isn't perfect in any other language the natives humiliate you and treat you like an idiot for it

bilingualism is 10x easier for ESLs

english doesnt count

meanwhile if you pronounce one phoneme wrong or your accent isn't perfect in any other language the natives humiliate you and treat you like an idiot for it

ironically the opposite is true, especially given that english is the most phonetically retarded language in the world

english doesnt count

it does count

they can easily immerse without even having to leave their home country via the internet

Are there no Spanish, German and French websites??

it doesnt
if you know your NL and english you're a monolingual beta

dutch used to be a World Language...

So you're at least C1 by now, right?

Or, maybe, you could just actually learn to speak English by talking to some English speakers instead of trying to invent a new pronunciation using only IPA that “feels right” to you as someone who talks like a blackout-drunk Texan mixed with a Russian, because you refuse to just engage with the actual spoken language.

Maybe you should learn to pronounce English somewhat well with ANY accent before you try to invent a new standardized accent and expect native speakers to engage with you in discussing it seriously.

There are, quite literally, none. There's (news)slop and government websites. Link me to FRchan, if it exists (it doesn't). Any online community, even if mostly populated by foreigners (for example hobby forums or discords or whatever) will be almost entirely in english because that's the global 'lingua franca' that belgians and brazilians can talk to each other in. The non-english online community is microscopic, and it's even worse if you want a first world language like french or german because anyone with the IQ to use a computer in those countries knows english.

meanwhile if you pronounce one phoneme wrong or your accent isn't perfect in any other language the natives humiliate you and treat you like an idiot for it

You mean people on Anon Babble, people irl dont give a shit as long as they can understand you

no
you're bilingual

close in terms of listening comprehension

At Tim Hortons a little girl in grade 3 was bragging to her grandparents about how many languages she was learning on du*lingo. IIRC: Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Irish. They said that was too many but she insisted that she remembers everything. Old guy asked her how to say "iced capp" (Canadian term for frappés/slushy coffee) in French.

B-but I just started learning French!

Cope.
I know how to say that in my TL.
Idiot child. Duolingo is rubbish.

close

are you or are you not? you either are C1 or you aren't

I'd say no

I won the argument again

What was the argument?

It doesn't matter because I won

People have a hugely inflated impression of the language levels. C1 is bascally full fluent comprehension, you understand virtually everything you hear with no issue. C2 is only for advanced/techncial/niche topics and language. A lot of native speakers arent even c2 (people who dont read and dont have a big vocabulary can easily be c1 in their own language)

andrewsenior.com/cuneify/index.html
you'll need the fonts, you can get them from hethport or just download noto sans
if you managed to make a chinese/japanese-style cuneiform input for cuneiform I'd (find a pretty girl to) suck your dick
ah that explains the random ๐’‘ฐ and the broken ๐’€๐’…ˆ ag-ar. hint for future anon, only sumerians broke up syllables like that, akkadians and hittites always used the combos CV-VC, CV-CV, (C)VC-CV(C), etc. and never broken VC-VC (illegal >:CCC)
please learn akkadian.

You are coping, sir.

Link me to FRchan, if it exists (it doesn't).

Because French speakers have their own sites, they aren't just making copies of English sites. If you actually look there are shitloads of French communities on the internet, the fact that there isn't an imageboard just goes to show you that there are new things to discover if you enter into another language's online world and it isn't just a copy of the English-speaking internet.

I learnt Mandarin to a pretty high level by following the HSK curriculum while doing a shit load of immersion in addition.

I recently got recommended a video on J. Marvin Browns ALG method and I think I will give it a shot with a language I don't particularly want to actually study rigorously. For me this is Korean.

I am not really sure what the method here is - I was just going to watch Pocoyo in full 3 times and then move onto Peppa Pig and do that in full couple times. Not looking up vocab or anything. My general thinking is that the major skill in the ALG method is to not think and just get this shit zapped into my brain. My aim is to do this for 2 hours before I sleep instead of watching whatever else I normally do.

I imagine the pipeline here is:
Pocoyo -> Peppa Pig -> Discovery Kids documentaries (Korean equivalent) -> Just normal documentaries

Will this work? Probably not, but I'm going to do it anyway...

i am NOT

Korean is very hard, basc listening comprehension is harder than kapanese, i wouldnt expect much from 2 hours a night, but good luck

I'm going to try and write a script to automatically convert korean subtitle files to have the literal word for word translation underneath the original subtitles and hope that works

I think generally my ears are pretty good at distinguishing sounds. I have been watching Pocoyo for about an hour now and I am definitely able to hear ever single syllable clearly enough for it to not just sound like complete gibberish - other than in the second episode where they kept whispering shit.
The only thing is that I don't know what any of the words being said mean yet - but I have faith in this J. Marvin Brown fella.

Remember that you can make Anki decks for things other than learning vocabulary of foreign languages.
For example, a deck with the names of people who have wronged you in the past and their actions.

In terms of entertainment, I am unironically really enjoying Pocoyo. Its quite cute. But I will try this channel out in addition.

pocoyo gang.gif - 480x270, 785.29K

they can easily immerse without even having to leave their home country via the internet.

so can we with other langs

Then you haven't talked to any, especially their "elites". Jewtin himself in particular is pozzed beyond belief.

I hate this guy so fucking much

u mad, chud?

idk, it's not that you can immerse in English, it's that you WILL immerse in English if you use the internet, inevitably

I am mad but not for chud reasons

what reasons could a non-chud have to be mad

antisemite

you're a retard, please stop drinking the kool aid
idk if you're the same person but you're also retarded. it's extremely common for verbs to have context-specific uses and subtleties that don't translate well into other languages. just look at how many ESLs don't understand the difference between "watch" and "look at".

also let me add that you can simply include context with your words. anki lets you use whatever text you like, images, audio, retarded formatting, whatever tickles your fancy.

petit italiano is being bullied hard this thread

Personally I ankisplooge all over my reviews first thing in the morning.

There was a dude how watched Grave (2017) over a hundred times on letterboxd, and even had youtube clip of him timing some scene with the new years 00:00 clock.
The person was obviously ill

Chud

I anki edge all day. I only ankisplooge once a week.

Grandpa smoked her lmao...

What a fucking dumbass child, being curious about the world and shit

Why are women so much better than men at learning languages?

can one of you tell me to stop procrastinating and study, cheers

Depends on what you are trying to learn.

stop procrastinating and study, I know I won't

Because men usually don't waste time on pointless things like learning french or Italian.

We do important manly things like videogames and Anon Babble

men usually don't waste time on pointless things like learning french

I do

Procrastinate, stop studying

I'm sorry the turk beat you to it, I'm gone o7

+Respect

I'd rather play total war than learn french or Italian.

fair i dont want to speak eurohomo either

Based. What language are you learning?

im learning the natioro language

There is no point in learning Welsh.
The Welsh people are rabid and do not like outsiders.
The ones who live in Northern Wales foam at the mouth when they see foreigners - and sometimes they even bite.
For your own safety, I encourage you to procrastinate forever.

My wife speaks Welsh and she is very nice.

They only do that to english people

Why is that duck spanking himself

They have a brain stem level drive to get nailed by foreigners, learning foreign languages is as easy as breathing for them. gay men have the same advantage which is why /lang/ is the gayest general this side of /tttt/

Hes clapping :3
