we do have big metropolis that are basically the same as the north, maybe they don't compare to rome or milan (never been there) but they're still pretty big.
and we also have important tourist spots, that have become super expensive to live in.

problems are more "localized" than they seem, they're not widespread.
my city for example literally never had any water problems, but i hear other sicilian cities have them.
in my city we have issues with understaffed hospital but there's 2 huge well working hospitals at less than 45 minutes of driving and 1 medium sized hospital that works pretty good at 20 minutes.
some work on roads ends in 2 days, some goes on for decades.
trains are on time, clean and used a lot.
some cities have issues with too many cars, mine for example doesn't.
my city has been getting gigabit internet for years and i should get it in the next 2-3 months.
we get concerts, we have comicons, we have big malls.

the most common and widespread issue here is lack of big businesses, industries and jobs.
it's not being fixed because big industries in the north enjoy the "big demand" for work; i mean that people from the south move to the north for work and probably "compete" with the northeners, so the owners can overall pay people less (because of high demand).

we're honestly normal lol. the news paints us much worse than we really are.
