Massive blackout in Madrid happening right now, apparently the whole city is in the dark. Never seen something like this.

Do you have blackouts in your country?

blackout.jpg - 1310x734, 131.68K

blackout

local time is 12:54

someone said it happened in Portugal too

This is happening in all Spain

Just heard it's going on in Spain, Portugal and France. Can any towels and croissants confirm or deny?

Yeah I've heard that too
ok smarty pants what would you call it when the grid fails but it's daylight?
Not in the islands THO. I'm doing fine

Whoops forgot my text
Occasionally*

Not just you, it went out here too

look up

All of Portugal too, have some friends in France who have energy so it's probably a Iberia thing

People on Twitter are saying that also in France and Portugal

what would you call it when the grid fails but it's daylight?

Outage

Apparently France, Poland and Finland are in the dark too

a strömavbrott

Thanks for letting me know my english-speaking friend. I thought blackout was universally used but thanks to you my english will be even better

Imagine NOT having electricity right now lmao plebs

blackoutugal

Its been a pleasure knowing you guys

Nah, we are going into the war

You're welcome Javier, there is no shame in not knowing something and there is nothing bad with learning

More profane: Your politicians are getting bribed as we speak. They will use the blackouts as the reason to increase taxes massively and feed some rich child-murdering energy elites with it.
Expect 50 cents per kWh. And a LOT more climate laws. All while they burn terawatt hours with AI to make you poor and marginalized, ready to get maided.

Canary and Balears Islands are not affected since they got their own supply of "renewal" (solar, wind) energy.

generators are doing siesta

Nah, we are not affected because we have our own separate grid and are not connected to the continent. In fact each one of the Canaries (except Lanzarote-Fuerteventura) are their own isolated grid. Plus the grids here are in fact much dirtier because we have very low flexibility and space for renewables. Gran Canaria (vgh home) is mostly supplied by two oil-powered plants.

why did you kill jay slater for?

I think the last power failure I experienced was more than 20 years ago. They turned the power off for an hour to install new meters last year, but that was planned and announced the week before they did that.

That being said our electricity providers warn us that power failures will become a lot more common due to the spreading of rooftop solar panels. It's already happening in those parts of the country with high percentages of house ownership. The reason for that is that when the sun is shining, the solar panels produce more power than the grid can handle, so to protect the infrastructure, whole subsections (i.e. towns, villages, city quarters) have to be shut down for a few hours. Our government knows this and plans to continue subsidizing even more new solar panels.

N*ggerlands junta put out a warning to not massively use household appliances and charge EVs between 17:00 and 21:00.
Nobody could've predicted that by electrifying everything and setting up solar panels everywhere the grid would require massive upgrades.

Truly the Congo delta of Europe

Idk ask Tinerfeños we had nothing to do with that

main high voltage cable burned down

that's the latest rumor I heard

Do you guys have power? Some are saying is the whole electrical grid and others say it's just spain portugal and france

Power just went out in all of eastern denmark. all trains and metro out of service in copenhagen

For hole of Europe

Yes we have power

TIME TO FIGHT IN THE WAR BOYS

wtf true?

Yes, I have power coming out of the wall sockets at 48 cents/kWh thanks to emission taxes and subsidies for those rich, rich house owners with solar panels.

see you guys in Bakhmut

THE JEWS DID THIS

Solar panel owners here are malding because the government has dropped fixed tariffs so a lot of times they have to pay if they offload their surplus power onto the net.

I hope they do that here, too, now that the Greens have been kicked out of the new government.

This is what you get if you have a conservative city government that privatizes its public utilities and sells them to their crony friends for cheap Latin America-style. Cost cutting, no maintenance and systemic failure are the result

Buy more American LNG to bring down energy prices

It's so bizarre those animals believe they're literally entitled to just congest the grid with their garbage power which nobody needs nor asked for

In capitalism abundance is actively discouraged because it hurts the profits of the privatw energy companies

Entire train network has been disrupted

russian cyberattack

Why are important power grid systems connected to the internet?

and i recently read about how the russians and chinese are targetting european power plants and distribution. i really hope this is not related or shit is starting to hit the fan

Energy companies don't own the net here.
You can't just make your own bread and expect the bakery to buy them off of you for a fixed price

Those ruskis are in a world of pain when the IT department comes back from vacation next week

Because they are spying on us through lightbulbs and other appliances.

Orban zigger cockguzzling finally paid off

Why doesn't the Dutch government just build massive energy storage systems like those in Quebec and Southern Australia.

Oh wait, it's a right-wing government that would rather buy weapons from French and German arms conglomerates than to invest in public infrastructure for its own systems.

CanaryCHADS we keep winning

more volts = more faster internet

These idiots here unironically think those Yankee-mossad attacks that are meant to whip Western Europe into line when it comes to defense are perpetuated by Russia.

You guys know that the documents on operation Gladio have been published right?

Not him, it's the same over here. The grid is owned by a private company that is different from the 4 major German electricity providers, which I think are RWE, Eon, Vattenfall and EnBW.

a minute of silence for everyone trapped in an elevator right now

Like 70% of our energy production capacity is owned by ""public"" German and French state companies. As soon as we privatised the energy company it was split and bought by you guys.
Situation was so bad we bought a part of the German net to hold leverage

I think Spanish traffic is tolerant of power outages, when the 2011 earthquake and tsunami hit, my city had a complete power outage from noon on, but the hardest part was the traffic lights.

Spain has a lot of roundabouts so that people can use intersections without having to use traffic signals. It's one of the things I thought Spain was superior when I was driving around on my trip.

I remember the odd power cut when I was young in the 90s but nothing in the past 20 years or so

society starts collapsing

Yes, this is the beauty of 'EU privatization' you sell off your state assets to semi-private German energy companies, the Quebec pensioner's fund and the French energy state corporation and some to American private equity, so you are subsidizing the deficitaire budgets of your neighboring governments. Don't you love efficiency?

Finland

bought by you guys

Only 2 of our 4 electricity providers are German, one is Swedish, and the other was bought by Energie de France if I remember correctly.

The whole city is burning people have started killing and cannibalizing each other on the spot I'm scared bros.

is it actually happening this time?

does this affect running water? no electricity or food is one thing, but without drinking water you don't last very long

I think everyone drinks bottled there

Most residential buildings have (or should have) enough water for 2 or 3 days of normal consumption.

how long until the looting starts?

Every time it rains (nearly every day) São Paulo, the biggest and richest city of Brazil, stays without electricity for around 4 hours minimum. But we're a turd world nation so...

i rely on tap water. if that cuts off and stores stop working i'm fucked. just filled 12L of water bottles out of pure paranoia, in case this is just the beginning and the rest of europe follows within an hour. luckily we still have a of lot of nuclear power, but this is the grid that shat iself, no?

yeah but if this occurs regularly you can anticipate a future one and prepare, if it's a first and nation wide then it's pure chaos

No electricity means pumps stop working means no more water.
They used to store water in water towers and gravity took care of delivering water through the pipes. But I think they demolished the last water towers in the 1970s and installed pumps everywhere.

Interesting fact: I live in an area where coal used to be mined. That has sunk entire parts of towns by around 12m to the effect that now huge pumps have to run around the clock to drain the water that would otherwise flood the streets and houses here.

Live by the beach, can confirm

Nothing will happen supply is being reestablished

Many buildings, even new ones, have their water storage (aljibes) in the last floor so even if there's no more power you can still have running water through gravity.
But if your buildings relies on pumped water yeah you are fucked.

like in Quebec

Do you think they store it magically? It is pumped into huge flooded basins, the likes of which don't exist in Western Europe. The ones that do exist are populated so you'd have to displace millions of people and erase all the history there just for your heckin electricitino

this feels thirdie af, I can imagine it happening in Morocco or war-torn Ukraine but Spain???

Interesting approach, I have never seen this here. I live on the top floor of my apartment house and there's no water tank on the roof. Yes, I depend on pumps.

Our tabloid media are the only ones reporting this for now, and they speculate whether it's a synchronization problem between the Spanish and the French grid or if it was a Russian cyber attack.

You can't make that stuff up, but apparently our tabloids do just that.

Do you know how they store it in Australia? They basically used a bunch of used car batteries, put them into a bunch of shipping containers, added some cabling and now the states in Southern Australia have among the cheapest energy in Oceania, virtually completely solar-based as well while also retaining a public profit for the public budget.

in Spain every building should have solar panels nowadays and be independent from the outer power grid

steam deck fully charged

no power outage

have to keep working

Hay que vender kits de supervivencia

we still have a lot of standing water towers. i think we should put them back in use, or at least make them capable to deliver water in case of emergency
bit of redundancy can't hurt

from my province

Madrid's Barajas International Airport was left without power.

How does a place like that not have backup generators

Complex Systems Won't Survive the Competence Crisis

We lose power all the time, it’s not a big deal.

I would think that that would be expensive, though. By now there are probably EU hygiene regulations that the towers have to be inspected for contamination, germs etc. in regular intervals to protect the people from diseases.

lads I heard half of Spain is like mad max right now, total societal collapse, wild stuff, Portugal abused the situation and marched in with the army

why? the infrastructure is already there. if they could do it in the 60's i don't see how it would be expensive or difficult to use them as a backup

Socialism in action

Imagine being stuck in the elevator with a cute girl ahah...

I heard part of France got blackout too

/med/ posters just sent a pic of what it looks like outside

nvm. still, just some bureaucratic slop every now and then in exchange for security, i'll take it

how are you posting here

no we aren't
please move your businesses here

cell phone antennas usually have batteries and can last for like a day without power

Well it can't be so bad if your cell transmitters and internet routers still have power.

this is your fault tho

I also shirt on a porch of every Spanish person, because I'm evil. Yeah.

Im about to step outside to capture the chaos wish me luck
Crazy how we checked Anon Babble knowing we have limited battery

Já voltou ou ainda estão sem luz ?

Sure hope nuclear powers plants are up to code , have generators and auto-scram with grid outages
Im sure the spaniards would never skimp out on those right

I have solar panels and batteries so I'm OK.
Also have a well, so water is fine too.
Most preppers are crazy, but being prepared is good.

Still down, looks like it could be a while
Im guessing it’s too early to tell

Whole Finland just got a power outage and people near the border heard nuke reloading sounds, wtf is going on

Our main stream media have picked up the story and are reporting that Spain's Red Eléctrica is in the process of restoring power and looking for the reason why the power failed.

lol europe is a shithole

one (1) outage well over 20 years (possibly more) vs. outages every single month, some times daily during summer

lol

it's common knowledge to always fill up your bathtub with water the moment the electricity goes out

ok but now I have electricity and you don't

I actually have electricity and went unaffected. Please refer to this post and this post

My boss just sent us all home because the latest prediction to restore power is only at 11pm

They are waiting for Belizan there, I don't think you want to "gozar"

they are highly regulated so these are the least of your worries

what do you anons think caused it, CIA, mismanagement, or something else?

We should take advantage of this and invade via Gibraltar

sus

The spaniards would NEVER skimp out on things that cost a lot of money only to be used in exceptional and very uncommon scenarios, are you crazy? It's not like we're bordered by those lazy and inefficient germans!

definitely the CIA. everything bad that happens to Europe is because of America of course

ya bastante tenemos con los moros y los sudacas para que vengan los italo-wannabes a tocar los cojones

In the Spanish resort of Benidorm, Mark England tells us how the lack of power has disrupted his holiday.

He says he and his partner Jonnie had gone for lunch when the lights in the dining room started to go off.

Worst of all, at a holiday destination like Benidorm, Mark says bars are unable to serve drinks because of a lack of power to their pumps.

The view from Benidorm: 'If you haven't got a drink, you're out of luck'

Spaniards are literally killing norf fc benders in Benidorm due to a lack of beer.

link to the graph please ?

you get the idea.

Remember when they tried to push the attack on NS2 as being a Russian attack for like a year until no one was buying it and then they quickly tried to bury the investigation for 'security reasons'?

FUCK THIS CURSED EXISTENCE I HATE IT HERE

We're so back!

My area is still in blackout. Sun still going strong, so no problem here. I'll probably take this as an excuse to install more battery capacity.

Bros how long do you think this is gonna last? Surely no more than a day, r-right?

Between 6 and 10h according to the experts.
It's very unlikely for it to extend that much. Some areas are already back up...

bbc.com/news/live/c9wpq8xrvd9t

We're now hearing from Antonio Costa, president of the European Council, who says there are no indications that today's power outage has been caused by a cyber attack at this point.

Costa says he is in touch with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Portuguese PM Luís Montenegro - with grid operators in both countries "working on finding the cause, and on restoring the electricity supply".

at first sight there were no zigger shenanigans involved
