The californian peninsula is surrounded by water, but that does not create a lot of humidity, because all of the water that evaporates rockets high up in the atmosphere.

There's also a lot of rainforest and tropical stuff here, mostly on the north and north east. I've never been to the north west so idk if it's the same there, but theoretically it should be.
South is where it gets green and cold, with Victoria and Tasmania being the coldest states complete with snow in some areas. Tasmania itself looks kind of like New England (pic related).
