Rather they are the exact same as the European settlers from colonial times except now they're have non white blood. The mixing was very recent, like 19th century, and it mentally buckbroke them. Up until the mid 20th century they still saw themselves as whites, except with "corrupted blood". This is how they saw themselves.

"castizo" was never a thing. Everyone who was mixed in colonial were simply referred to as "mestizo". The term castizo was only found in casta paintings which were not representative of the actual denominations of the time or anything about how people saw mixed people. Look it up, casta paintings were the fantasy of the peninsular upperclass.

Mestizo also meant nothing, it just meant being mixed. It was not an identity, it only meant "mixed". There was no such thing as a mestizo identity up until the 20th century where it would spread throughout Hispanic America alongside the myth that they are new peoples.

what are you talking about? I've been to literal museums where they depict these casta paintings and they date back hundreds of years. They were meant to depict the mixing between the Spaniards/Portuguese and Natives that occurred from when the natives tribes converted to Catholicism. And no, people were referred to as Castizo quite often as they had more european features, some were even called Harnizo (bet you haven't heard that one and you're going to have to google it).
