Not useless at all. It's used for example when denoting when to pronounce [s] and when [z] when forming the plural or dividing a word into syllables. Obviously we can't use the letter Z for that as that is always a [ts], as it is in Italian and in Ancient Greek.

Many European languages (including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish) used to write and print ß up into the early 1800s. I can't understand that they are so removed from their own past that everybody in those countries seems to have forgot about it.

English keyboard lacks Old English/Middle English letters, but has like, German ones.
It never made much sense.

Oh they also use a Dollar symbol in its place and don’t replace it with a Pound one. For whatever bizarre reason they use both.

I switch to the default (US English) keyboard for coding because to get {[]} I need to press AltGr + a key, while on the English keyboard it's just a single key. (They don't have äöüß.)
