The summarized answer is that it introduced standardized testing and federal funding for schools was based on how well a school performed on those tests. The end result was that the good schools stayed good (meaning, the rich schools in rich communities) and the bad schools got even worse (meaning, the other 80% of America). Kids were pushed through even if they weren't actually passing because the school's funding depended on it. Holding a student back became an extreme rarity, which is how you end up with high school graduates who can't read. The end result is an entire generation of people (late millenials and basically all zoomers) who were pushed through a failed education system. It was arguably the single worst policy in American education in the past century, and now all those children have grown up and can vote.

Dem leadership fucked up by openly ignoring the voice of their voterbase three times in a row - twice by effectively rigging their primary, and then a third time by hand-selecting a replacement candidate who polled extremely poorly in the past at the absolute last minute. And to make it worse, the campaign they ran was nothing but a checklist of everything people point to when they call them out of touch - wealthy celebrity endorsements, Nazi accusations, and nothing but "vote for us because we're not them." Their campaign said nothing about their own platform outside of reproductive rights. The issue isn't that they lost voters to their opponent, it's that people who would've voted for them just stayed home because they didn't think their vote mattered.
I don't follow politics but I hope whoever's been making their decisions the last 10 years got replaced ASAP after that disaster because it's clear they have no idea what they're doing and it's scared people away so much that was a more appealing choice.
