HOA is a private organization. If you choose to live in an HOA, buying one of their homes, you follow their contract. So all these people complaining they can't let their house run to the ground in a HOA are retarded and should have known they are buying into an HOA. They usually own neighborhoods not individual houses. Everyone in the neighborhood is a member. HOA pros is that they collect membership from the homeowners monthly to build up the community. This is why the HOA has strict rules that seem silly but they are usually well kept neighborhoods with high property values and amenities.

im not shure if you see it this way, but its a fundamental right of property to do as you want with it. there are countless rules what you can and cannot do here, but none of them includes length of grass or number of cars stored in your driveway. we only have rules for not painting your house bright blue when all the others are natural.

If you sell your house that is in the HOA it's still a part of the HOA. That doesn't get removed. Anyway they maintain their property cost pretty well. My friend bought a 250k home in 2016 and it's worth about a little over 500k now if he sold it.
