Yes, Windows 11

No I have a smartphone and that's all I need.

What's the first distro i should use anons? i wanna try linux

Yeah, I tried Linux on my laptop once, but some programs required for Uni didn't run on it so I switched back

Mint

also, what are the pros of choosing linux over windows?

Pros

Less spyware, less bloatware, if you know what you're doing you can get some stuff done faster, more customisability o algo, not giving market share to microjew

Cons

Steep learning curve for the CLI, lots of things take extra steps/time, lots of programs don't support Linux and running them either takes a lot of extra effort to get them running or they just don't work at all, less guides and help available online so you'll have to figure more stuff out on your own

no, the few games I want work well on linux

your OS doesn't install shit without your knowledge

you always know exactly what's going on at all times

much less resources needed

you can tailor the system to work exactly like you want

Why no update to 42?
Best distro ever. If only gnome software wasn't slow as balls. I'm told the kde store is better.

What is it with you fags and your endless fascination with Terminal?
Does typing commands in it make you feel all like 1337 h4xx0rz n shieet?
Not saying Linux is crap, it is indeed arguably better than Windows and Mac. But don't be a such fanboys about it. It's a tool ffs, not a lifestyle.

I use Arch, by the way.

Mint, I agree with the people here. Mint or anything based on Ubuntu because of how good they are documented. (and how easy they are to install)

I don't have time to tinker with loonix

bro it's just that these specs-listing programs are more easily available on the terminal, that's all. I'm sure there's something like Speccy for Linux too

Debian or Fedora.

I am a Data Engineer at a large Chemical multinational company and I am saving urls as shortcuts on my Desktop.

People will call u a chad.

Do u give internships?

No. I use Debian.
Debian or Linux Mint Debian edition.

Either Mint, Ubuntu or Fedora.

Based

Ubuntu. Trust me, anyone telling you otherwise is a noob

I am King Terry the Terrible

what are the pros of being able to actually use your computer

idk man

I can recomment openSUSE. Yast makes installing most programs pretty easy. But no matter the distro, you will have to learn some basics about Linux.

for me the greatest advantage is being able to use old hardware. i used to be a macfag and would buy a new laptop every so often. now (all gaming aside) i can just use whatever hardware i want that came out in the last 20 years or so. its actually kino

Can't go wrong with the latest ubuntu LTS. it's what everyone uses for real work.

every time I get a new personal machine I try out a couple distros to see how they've changed, manjaro has made the Arch experience very noob friendly nowadays

smelly nerd neckbeard thread

actually taking advantage of the capabilities your graphical user interface (GUI) offers, mad respect.

I'll migrate to fedora whenever they stop supporting windows 10. I used manjaro on my old laptop many years ago so I know what to expect

yes windo

what distro and wm is that

neofetch is a meme. the unix terminal is not.

ricing your terminal used to be a flex but nowadays you get premade rc files in many distros that make your prompt do that cool stacking thing even if you don't know what an rc file is so it's more of a shitpost really

also an excuse to brag about your computer's godly (or ancient) specs

Linux

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

Bro aren't they removing yast in the next version of LEAP? iirc replacing it with some browser based dumbed down util

yes and I love windows.

why dont you update to the new versions of fedora? is 39 even supported yet?
i have the KDE version on my laptop
its mostly all the same for a new user fedora, ubuntu, mint your experience will be very similar

GNU/mom, cancel my meetings
