So it seems American English is indeed objectively better than British English, eh? So be it.
I've also decided to quite my studies (medicine) for a while to learn German.
I will do it. I'm starting today, I'll eat and start reading the textbook.

didn't put /lang/ as the subject award

I refreshed on the catalog to see if anyone made a thread while I was waiting for the thread timer to go down, but 4chanx ate my post (it doesn't do this from the index view btw). I must have forgotten to put it back. oops.

after being filtered by arabic again i don't know which language to learn, none particularly interest me

I tried to delete the thread before anyone posted, but Anon Babble gave me the error "Error: You Cannot Delete This Post".

can't decide between latin or russian as a secondary to mess around with when I'm burnt out from staring at moon runes. learning one will most likely preclude me from ever learning the other.

Latin itself is a dead language obviously, provides a good basis for other romance languages in that the grammar patterns are very similar and lots of the vocabulary can be intuited, but same applies if you learned another more useful romance language. I enjoyed it in school but wouldn't really recommend unless you're super into Roman shit
Russian is more immediately useful and lots of what you learn will help with other Eastern European/Caucasian languages, but if you're already doing moon runes you might not want to have to learn another alphabet. It's easier than Japanese thoughbeit from what I hear

If you have choice, Russian.
It's about as linguistically archaic as Latin and shares most of its grammatics with it but is also an actual spoken language.
Honestly, reading classical *prose* in its original languages doesn't worth it at all, so even if you like the classics (poetry aside), you'll get nothing from Latin besides realizing what proper grammar is.

And no, learning Latin in addition to English will barely help you with Romance languages any more. English vocabulary is already 2/3 Romance and its grammar is actually closer to Romance languages than Latin's (even in verb, e.g. compound tenses).
Latin and Greek are good languages to learn if you're a westerner and especially an anglophone, but if you have a choice, Russian is like them but better.

hej

We have different language, not only English, I can speak 2

decided to quite my studies

You're around 20, right? I wish I had dropped out of my sharaga at that age and applied to MGIMO/MGU instead. My English scores would've been sufficient for it by then.
Instead I dropped out when I was 95% through and never got a diploma at all.

the best latin literature was written by pagans though

dropped out

Oh, I'm not dropping out, I'm just stopping visiting classes, they don't kick people out for this anymore. There are 3 dudes in my study group alone who haven't visited any classes for already 2 years at all and they're still enrolled and I'm quite sure they'll graduate.

MGIMO/MGU

Do you think it would really make a difference though? If you're ready to grind, you better go to Czechia or Germany, staying here and actually studying instead of slacking around is kinda silly.
No, not at all. In countries where education exist (id est, not yours), all high-schoolers learn it.

best latin literature

Still mogged by the worst Greek literature though.

i just finished my first real book in my target language. It was really long. Now I need a new book.

probably true, I'll go cyka my blyat

Why such a choice btw? I mean the languages are indeed very similar and interchangeable but not a lot of people realize it.

It's been a month I started learning greek and I still don't know how to say hi, nice to meet you or goodbye because my textbooks just skip such things. It really is a dead language.

I feel like I really want to learn Spanish right now but I won't dabble. South America is actually a gem and the language is pleasant unlike g*rman.

learn it

As a dead language academically studied as a historical curiosity

Exactly, because it's a dead language which has nothing to do with dead Jews and their beetles or magic lava.

true so much true

Learning an ancient language for religion is so interesting, does this disposition agree with your disposition langers?

same over here in australia. are you the medicine russian?

are you the medicine russian?

Yeah.

same over here in australia

Hmm I thought it was a third world thing. American and German unis are turbo-tryhard for what I know.

anyone here used peppa pig for input

everyone here

I dont know where else to start

podcasts, music, radio, audiobooks, tv shows, other children's shows, youtube, livestreams, scroll social media in your tl, etc. what's your tl?

I surrender in trying of learning Japanese, and start to learn a easier language. But every course on YouTube is made or filled for 30s year old delusional single women. It's the hell.

what are u not forced to attend?

youtube courses

How about you actually try to study?

assimil + le français par la méthode nature bro

Ahh I guess now I got what you actually meant. We're de iure obliged to attend everything in the curriculum (you can't choose or exclude subjects here), it's just that de facto nobody cares: it's easier to skip normal classes, get academic debts (as in, failed subjects), and then get rid of those debts during the whole next year. It saves just enormous amount of time. For example, a normal Physiology lesson lasts 3 hours, but you can re-do 2 skipped lessons in 1 hour during that oтpaбoткa (I'm not really sure how to translate this) thing.
I wish I was learning Congolese like you guys and not g*rman.

are your lessons in english?

Of course no, in Russian.

desu idk how you can just skip classes especially medicine classes. aren't they really hard? how long is ur degree btw.

assimil

can you actually speak french?

no, that's what the assimil course is for. the books and mp3s are easy to find.

how long have you been doing the assimil course?

aren't they really hard

Not really. Medical education is mostly union gatekeeping. Kaplan Lecture Notes, the summary of the entire amerimutt medical curriculum consist of only like 5000 pages.

how long is ur degree btw

6 years. This is the end of my 2nd year here. I wish this all to end so much you wouldn't believe anon.

if you dont like it you should drop it and do what you want to do bro. 6 years is insane btw. how long are you studying per day. i only hear med students talk about their degree when they're bitching about how hard it is

only a couple weeks.

i cant learn any language language simp has learned

good thing he's learned zero languages

if you dont like it

I guess I still like both science and medical practice, I just hate the classes. We don't even really study actual medicine yet so who cares. I better learn g*rman instead.

how long are you studying per day

I guess it would be 6 hours a day in the classroom on average. The longest day in the class this semester is Wednesday, it's 9 hours long homework aside.

they're bitching about how hard it is

Again, it's gatekeeping by unions. You have a spectrum of union involvement in working conditions, ranging from medicine as the most union-controlled field and programming as the least union-controlled one.
One could become a programmer in a month and earn six figures or something because there was nobody stop him from damping the market, but now this freedom has become adverse, because nobody stops the employer from hiring cheaper Indians and using AI and mass firing the pricier natives. Did you know that in the US, while 80% of generic H1b visas (nearly entirely tech) go to South Asians, only less than 40% of foreign doctors there are South Asians?
That's the unions' work, they make the entry very hard but if did become a doctor, you will never ever lose your job to a migrant, a chatbot, or whatever. Same happens with trades.

germans speak better english and german than you do. that's why i cant be fucked putting in so much time learning it. what's the culture like at ur uni? mines definitely very liberal with lgbtq shit everywhere and anti trump and elon posters in australia LOL

that's why i cant be fucked putting in so much time learning it

I need it for work but I don't really feel any passion for it, way less so than for Latin, any Romance language, or even English. It's just bland and soulless, I can't even really say why exactly.

what's the culture like at ur uni

Very zigger I'd say, a lot of non-study activity is centered around the war. Like meetings with war criminals, making bandages for war criminals, concerts praising the war etc.

do you feel like you're getting better at speaking so far?
I want to do one of the self-study courses to get back into German which is why I'm asking all these questions

german for medicine work? i heard its good for business but not for med. are you trying to be a doctor in germany?

are you trying to be a doctor in germany

Yeah. Acceptance rate (to residency) is nearly 90% there compared to only 60% in America. Originally I thought I'd just go to America (hence all the shitposting about English), but this year I realized I don't really qualify and it's not so good either so I decided to settle for Germany. The other options are Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, but Germany is just slightly better.
Between thinking about America and Germany, I thought about going to the Mediterranean countries (because I like their languages, culture, and nature, unlike g*rmany's), but they're so poor compared to Germanic countries and the pay is so shitty, it's really bitterly sad.

When will I get to read the Bible in Chink?
I have a side-by-side of the CNV version. So I figured maybe I could use it to input authentic Chinese alongside an audiobook if I moved very slowly and paused to figure out new characters from the English + context since I won't have to look up the pronunciation.

Wait no, not Brazilian-tier, because in Brazil doctors earn a lot more than average. Somali-tier salaries then I guess.
Like $800 or something.

As I've told in the first post, I'm sort of taking a break to get to like B1 in German and it will be much more easy and natural since then. Also as I've said, you can just skip this shit if you're burdened, and the last 3 years are said to be much easier than the first 3, and there's not really that much things to actually remember afterwards so it's ok.
The real struggle is for people who want to go to America, then you have to actually learn a lot and save a lot of money too.

I picked up Chinese and Latin as hobbies when I started Law School because language learning is actually not conceptually that challenging, but it is really stimulating, so it was a good way of having something that actually makes me enjoy learning outside of my law studies. I think a big barrier for language learning in modern culture is precisely that we overblow the difficulty when the real challenge is just the time investment. The reason you get people that can speak 5-6 languages throughout history is largely a mix of practicality, less distractions, and it being a thing you "just do" rather than some grandiose pursuit that makes you exotic. Beyond the practical benefits of being multilingual in Europe, this is a major reason for monolingualism in America. We see it as extraordinary and even somewhat impractical and so we automatically assume anyone with significant self-taught bilingualism is smarter than their ability really indicates.

Basically, if you view language learning as a relatively easy and enjoyable activity, and cultivate a tendency to practice, it becomes easy. Mindset matters.

inspirational post anon

Yeah true, it's all really about passion, even time investment and practicality are way less important. If you like the language for whatever reason, it'll be easy.

100% on it being easier as time passes, really trying to get that in my head, just gotta push through. guess you could say its pretty similar to language learning.
did u finish school and how good was ur level on the languages? i actually look forward to doing anki everyday so its not a challenge at all for me.

Actually, it doesn't make any sense. The Frankish minuscule had already had the v/u distinction so you have to either use it as usual or VVRITE IN ALL CAPITALS LIKE ROMANS VVERE DOING.

bro what are those posts. sending money to people you dont know is crazy retarded. why tf would you do that, ur a smart guy as well. btw most people who say "u" are prob typing on their phones and not indian

open catalog

first thread

turns out we don't even NEED the title

Удaчи, aнoн.

ИншAллah.

is crazy retarded

I know I know, an Italian had already reprehended me about that in another thread. I just thought she kinda gets me because we're family or whatever. I also liked the idea too much to realize she was lying all the time.

btw most people who say "u" are prob typing on their phones

Yeah I guess you're right.
Thank you for a good talk anon.

thank u bro. i dont wanna see a good guy like you be taken advantage of. when you become successful doctor hopefully u notice it more. why ur half sister tho?

when u become successful doctor? i might be part indian

when you become successful doctor hopefully u notice it more

It was an exception. The only other time when I was interacting with a f*male is when there was some annoying bitch in the uni who I thought was a tsundere approaching me so I was groping her time-to-time and then I had to get in sort of a fight with her cuck bf when it turned out she was just retarded and not tsundere. I hate women.

why ur half sister tho

Sibling incest is cool as fuck and she herself was sort of hot too.

when u become successful

I graduate in 2030, then I finish residency and get German citizenship and I assume save my first own 100k€ by 2035, and then idk, maybe I'll move to Switzerland or America or stay in Germany.

i might be part indian

I knew that anon, I've told you it's the "u" thing. It's ok.

how much will you be making a year when you're in germany and have that all sorted? pls talk more about this groping / fight. was she not mad when u fucking groped her? dont risk that shit anyways even if she wants to dude you can get expelled for it.

how much will you be making a year

I guess the average (it scales each year) net and with extras will be like 70k€. I suppose I will do extras, because 2 dudes I've talked to both said it's not hard, but without them it will be like 50k€. I'll live in the East (either Pomerania or Saxony, I have to learn German already to look at the laws) so the cost of living must be low.

fight

It was recorded and I posted pics on 4chin, on Anon Babble and maybe on Anon Babble too, it was about a year ago. Everybody who saw there recording said it was meme shit, the cuck was like 20cm taller than me bust still didn't win.

was she not mad when u fucking groped her

No that's why I thought she was approaching me. Women are fucking stupid.

you can get expelled for it

Nah they don't ever expell anyone nowadays at all. I've told about the 3 dudes who don't even show up here.

and have that all sorted

Ah if you meant after the residency, idk honestly, figures vary a lot since then. Maybe about 100k€ net with extras in Germany and twice or thrice that in CH or the US, but nothing really certain. The junior (resident) doctor wages are fixed in Germany, that's why you better do residency in the cheap East, but senior doctor wages aren't.

jfc that's not a lot for all that work imo. post the vid btw.

all that work

Eh it's not really hard. Basically the only filter you have to pass for Europe (as a doctor at least) is language knowledge, you have to speak good German or Scandinavian and that's pretty much it, while anglophone countries require you to pass a shittone of professional tests and whatever to get in because everybody speaks English anyway.

post the vid

I didn't keep it obviously, it's been a year.

6 years of uni to make 100k is insane to me. i thought doctors made way more. btw u have a lot of good stories lol. and by break im still confused because our meanings are different? when u take a break are you saying you'll have a pause on your uni studies completely? getting b1 will take a while, i heard it was actually hard to learn for russians

to make 100k

It's Europe with European infrastructure and European work-life balance, I also meant net (after taxes) and not gross wage.

are you saying you'll have a pause on your uni studies completely

Yeah. For 3 months or so.

getting b1 will take a while

I've been previously dabbling with it the entire, I can already read basic texts. I'll just do the same I was doing with Latin a year ago, reading stuff for like 8-10 hours a day instead of browsing this site.

do you feel like you're getting better at speaking so far?

yeah

how many words do you know? i feel like learning latin is such a waste because you could know spanish or some other language. are you a catholic?? im gonna do the same as you but im definitely gonna need another thousand words to read better

how many words do you know

Not a clue honestly. I've done the available part of Deutsch nach der Naturmethode textbook, I was doing a 5000 words Anki deck (went maybe 1/5 through, Anki doesn't work for me), and now I just do the Assimil textbook.

learning latin is such a waste because you could know spanish or some other language

Yes exactly, that's why I dropped it after I got to reading original texts. The learning process itself was very funny though, LLPSI is really that good.

are you a catholic

Ofc no.

anki doesn't work for you? were u doing too many new words? at first anki sucked but i got the hang of it and its been vital so far. will drop it after a thousand words tho

Learning separate words out of context just feels kinda weird. You'll get the most essential words from any textbook anyway and they rest you better learn in context from some actual material.

fair enough

Wrong.

Grah

Latin's also useful for medieval and even some early modern shit, Euro elites switched languages surprisingly late
but yeah it's useless if you don't want to read primary sources

fuck you german

another day another opportunity
its time to stop making excuses
up your hours
immersion is king
to be nativelike you gotta act like a native
enjoy yourself

WAGMI

lately ive been doing more reading with lookups but i find it makes my speed insanely slow. im finna just go back to listening to the audio while reading along and learn words through context and repeated exposure that way. hasnt failed me so far. dictionaries are kinda bs anyways cus language is too organic to be defined concretely imo. controversial take, but idc.

tl?

mandarin. im reading war and peace.
