do cars stop to let you cross the road iyc?
Do cars stop to let you cross the road iyc?
They actually do and I put up my hand to say "thank you" every time or I do a little nod if I'm carrying something.
thirdies (and sharts) would never
I check what type of car it is. If its a sedan, I just step out, if its an F-150 I'm more careful.
But usually yes cars will stop at crosswalks when they see you getting ready to cross.
this is literally normal behavior basically anywhere
did you know that in [irrelevant country], they do [thing required everywhere by law]? it's so much more civilized!
not pick-up trucks
Not really
For some reason only men do that here
Yes and it makes me uncomfortable because 9/10 times I don't need to cross
The fact that terronies don't do this is the thing that convinced me shitaly is not white
Same but I don't ever than them. I thank people for giving way when they're not required to, e.g. yielding despite me coming from behind a stop sign or riding across the crosswalk on a bicycle. If they stop for a pedestrian, that's what they're required to do by law and you don't get extra thanks for doing what you're supposed to.
Usually. There's always that one dickhead in a jeep though.
I always do when I'm driving, it's not an universal behavior however, even though it's the law
countless times I was waiting at a zebra crossing in the pouring rain and no asshole could be bothered to stop for 3 seconds
Whenever I travel to Italy or any other uncivilized country I get a shock over this. The cars constantly try to kill you and that's somehow makes those countries romantic
Same here
The waitress is supposed to bring you your food and yet you still say thank you, unless you're some fucking autist
In Poland drivers started stopping before crosswalks only after the government made it illegal to continue driving in such situation with a heavy financial penalty of almost 400 dollars further proving that p*Les are subanimals that should have never been allowed to operate anything heavier than a wheelbarrow full of trash collected in more civilised countries.
Not in China or India bro
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
no.
well yeah, it's literally required by law
yes
if you ever hit a pedestrian here, you will be sued into oblivion
ACK
thanking people for doing what they supposed to do
what?
kek based uberjeet. here it's illegal to cross the road on your bicycle because drivers couldn't get enough time to react. but the biggest cancer are electric trotinete users
most people do
no helmet
thrown that far
she dead
It's honestly annoying.
It's no skin off my soles to wait a few seconds. Instead these fucks stop for me before I'm even close to the crossing, making me hurry. It's like when someone holds the door open for you, when you are still twenty paces away from it. GODDAMNIT! CEASE!
You have to stop if someone is waiting to cross
unless you're some fucking autist
I usually say "you're welcome" instead of thanks. They should be the ones thankful to me for being a customer in their establishment.
Highly depends on the area. In my experience:
Less so in North East
Around Debrecen drivers are much more polite
Budapest wealthy areas have much kinder drivers but the city also has some of the rudest drivers overall, especially cab drivers
West-Hungary depends but generally better than East
Same
In third world shitholes like shitaly the 1 ton+ metal contraption wins against 80 kg of puny flesh so the pedestrians acknowledge this and understand the car is only courteously letting them live rather than carmageddon their ass
It was quite common here before the caribbean invasion
youtu.be
In NY it’s not so common for people to stop. Have to be a defensive walker.
this. i also show my gratitude with a slight hand raise after a car stopped while im crossing
it still is, just move to a whiter place xD
no, only if you're already in the road, and then they slam on the gas pedal as soon as you're one millimeter past them. very selfish people.
This is the law in Brazil. But it's only getting better over time, Boomers hate stopping for pedestrians. My father, for example.
But in general it's becoming more and more common, because it's the law.
This to make sure they see you and don’t run you over
Transactional autist.
It's good making people feel appreciated despite them "having to" do that
In my state, the police would execute you on the spot if you don't stop for pedestrians.
doesn't matter because police are never there to witness a crime in action. and the typical attitude here is to keep taking risks until something really, really bad happens.
most roads here are too wide and fast for cars to think they should care (the thinking goes like, "if theres a dozen people all around me driving right now, why should i be the one to stop and cause an issue for every other driver?"), but they usually stop on the smaller roads
I live in Maine. Sorry your state is a shithole, bub.
so you live in an irrelevant backwater that's basically Canada, I live in the real America where the consequences of New England's favorite party are tangibly evident.
People just freely admit that they don't know how to drive cars on the internet
You're legally forced to come to a stop if you see a pedestrian come up to a crossing that doesn't have traffic lights, they have the right of way.
Old hags love standing right next to crossings and conversing with other old hags SPECIFICALLY to boost police statistics. It's a well documented fact.
The police in my city don't enforce traffic laws.
Only enforcement we have is parking enforcement.
pedestrians are more nimble, clever and stealthy and the cars kneel in respect with the knowledge that at any point the pedestrian could find where they live from the cuckcense plate and firebomb their house when they're sleeping
went to crete and it would genuinely take 5 minutes to cross the road because the cars did not give a single shit about pedestrians
Most of the time, but we're literally the only latinx country where it happens.
80% of cars stop, but that 20% is enough that I don't start walking until I see them coming to a stop.
putting hand is weird and effeminate, but nodding is fine, I nod too
It's a requirement here, if you don't stop and cause accident it's all your fault and you're in big trouble
What I hate is that we use these for crosswalk lights rather than just a normal traffic light.
It worked though. That's what the law is really for, to mold a proper culture.
It takes a really petty person to whine when things are visibly improving.
You're assuming the pedestrian is still alive after him meeting the apex predator of the roads
The first time I saw this, I had no idea how it worked. It just showed up on a major arterial, and I had to google how it worked.
rather than just a normal traffic light
yeah these lights just makes things needlessly complicated for smooth brains
its normal here wtf in what uncivilized country it is not?
not only waiting if they are approaching it you must stop but sometimes old people just encourage you to keep going if the notice you are slowing down
Streets should really be designed with the assumption that the median IQ of drivers is 80
Depends on the socio-economic factors of the driver
The southern you go, the less they stop.
