When i travel to visit people in the deep part of the state, i usually go by these houses. I find it insane how they could be watching a Champions League game there.
Im not able to buy stuff the way Americans do. Like, i can buy a cellphone every 3, 4 or so years. But i cant buy a new cellphone every year. I only buy this kind of stuff on urgency.
I can eat everyday, but i have to drink a lot of coffee to feel fullfiled. I cant just order a pizza every weekend. A decent pizza is like, 20 dollars here. Its a once in two months luxury.
I do live in probably the nicest area in the state. Its not cheap, but its affordable. This is not how the front of my house looks, obviously, but its in the region. Some kms further and there is a beach "neighbourhood" that resembles Miami, but its not to live there, its to open restaurants, movie theaters, etc.
But it still sucks because there are too many beggars here. I cant walk 2 minutes and some disgusting one is trying to talk with me. Theyre dangerous, if you refuse they can spit on you or do worse stuff, so im very careful to avoid them as much as i can. Thats because, even if its a nicer area, its still in the capital with a lot of poor people.
I probably could spend better my money, but i do need to live in this area + i spend a bit of my money to invest. So i see eating as a waste of money for the most part.

I have visited, other than Maranhão, these states in the whole of Brazil: Piauí, Ceará, Paraíba, Bahia, Sergipe.
In order of comfyness
Paraíba > Ceará > Sergipe > Piauí > Bahia
Notice most of these times i was there not for traveling, but for stuff like work or having to follow my father in doing something, so i didnt tourist too much to say stuff much deep. However, since i was in all these states for at least 5 days each, i could realize that Fortaleza and João Pessoa were really nice as cities, at least compared to São Luís. I didnt go further in Paraíba though.
Sergipe is calm, felt the more safe between all these states.
Bahia was really disappoint, but weirdly resembling of my home state.
Piauí is like a version of Maranhão with less African culture but even more heat.

Nice, I'm actually from Paraíba. Glad you liked. The interior can be pretty comfy too but of course it doesn't have the beaches, so the touristic value is mostly cultural. I recomending checking up the Brejo and Agreste regions. Cities and towns are usually tidy and with good infraestructure, I say this because I feel like the countryside of neighboring states like PE is kind of neglected, so this is the biggest difference that I notice.

Lots of crime, organized criminal groups. Work opportunities here suck, few companies, but you can get unnoficial jobs like being a fisher or stuff like that if you are okay with living on 100 dollars per month. Theres also government gibs for poorfags, but i dont know how they work

There is a lot of shady drug stuff that normies and favelados do on parties. But the everyday drug, that is actually easy to see in normal places, is just marijuana. It was used for religious reasons by the blacks here, nowadays not as much but the use of it is widespread, specially among black people.

It doesnt matter how im dressing. I can put flip flops, a Brazil shirt, and shorts. Beggars will still approach me. They are that shameless here, i just take a luck if there is anyone in my range and if its a beggar i change my route just to find avoid him. If its unavoidable, i run while looking at him to be sure he wont spit or do shit like that, and when its safe i look forward again. Thats how i deal with beggars.
