If I attempt to maintain my normal, english-speaking personality as I communicate in Japanese, it also comes off very strange and alien to them, and never sounds like native Japanese no matter how skilled I am

Language is also deeply connected to all other aspects of human experience, like spirituality and religion
And the more distance there is between languages and between cultures, obviously the alienation becomes more pronounced
