Is that...text on a flag?!

Is that...text on a flag?!

Oh my good flag bad flag, is that an image on the flag that isn't a minimalist corporate logo

AYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEE! I'M GOING INSANE! SAVE ME ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE!

Why are ''flag'' people on reddit like this?

he looks like he FUCKS bulgarian men

Text on flags are bad, same for maps.

But flags like mine are cool
Text is only bad if it's ugly. Get creative with calligraphy

I hate modern flag design. Isle of Wight and South Yorkshire stick out like a sore thumb here

My favorite flag is one I saw in syria that had a flat inside a flag

What does mistery soy in chief think about this? Fit's all of his criteria for a good flag.

vexologically speaking, probably. but I'm not a vexillologist

The Premordernist faggot tore the stickman faggot a new one over this shitty video

By the virologist criteria, it would be a good flag.
I think it's terrible since it's boring, all it is is the color of revolution (red) and the logo of retarded racial bullshit the Nazis believed.

It's a good visual allegory for how even Germany proper can be said to have been occupied by the Nazis.
There is nothing German about this flag, it is a logo for a political movement which was forced to be the national emblem for a whole people.

Virologist

Fucking autocorrect, I meant 'vexiologist.'
I guess Anon Babble doesn't recognize that word.

It's bad because a flag is meant to symbolize the country. If there's text on it, it's not a flag, it's a sign.

A CHILD NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO DRAW IT FROM MEMORY BECAUSE...... BECAUSE..................... UHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

this is the one that pisses me off. Text on flags is sometimes detrimental to the design but the former is such a meaningless and retarded rule

Writing on a flag is ugly as shit though.

I think it's supposed to be a more general rule of thumb. A more intricate design becomes more difficult to distinguish at a long distance. Take this extra compressed screenshot for example. Alabama, New Mexico, Texas, Tennessee are all super recognizable. California and South Carolina are still recognizable, but they still lose some detail. The rest of the states which just use their state seals as a flag can only be recognized (maybe) by the shade of blue and a vague difference in the seal's colors. I think they can still be attractive as flags, but they'll never be well known.

Colorado flag sucks though.

Can't take a fag who defends this shit seriously.
He just picked the handbook of the American Vexillological Association and took it's tips as gospel truth.
The best looking flags are based on medieval heraldry, with the appropriate colours and symbolism. The rule that "it can't be too complex" leads you to shitty minimalist corpo logos.

My brain doesn't like the fact the the circle isn't centered.

I think it's to make the circle centred when it's waving in the air. That's why the Bengali flag is the way it is at least.

Irish republic

English text

Yeah, that looks ugly as sin. They should have used the old one with the harp on it. That one was sovlful.

And this is what happens when they design a new flag using the principles as a footnote and not as the gospel of flag design. The flag would be way less interesting without the text and stars, and with a simpler magnolia design

I agree but I don't think a child would be able to draw a harp consistently from memory. Ireland should use it instead thougheverbeit desu

Well yeah, as you just said in the post above (or another random swede didt) Using it exactly is lame, and creates sovless shit. But using the principles as more guideposts gives you good designs.
Plus most complex yet recognizable symbols can be simplified if a kid needs to draw it for a class or something. Writing however looks like trash.

No, I used the right click on the red dotted word without reading the correction.

Text on maps is the whole point of maps you sperg

Based youtube history dad BTFO'd Grey and the whole "movement" months ago. The part about the South Carolina flag was a real eye opener as to how arbitrary and subjective the supposedly objective and meaningful "good flag" criteria can get.

Minimalist flags can have SOVL.
Japan's flag is a very good example yes.

my man

and the logo of retarded racial bullshit the Nazis believed.

Low iq drivel.
It's still has the red white and black of the kaiserreich, the swastika is meant to denote the rising sun, a new beginning. And that's where the color scheme is important, as it symbolizes that they aren't rejecting the past. As in, NOT a genuine revolution where the old is rejected and done away with. But rather their reactionary nature.

What timmy gon do about it?

teach the children to draw better

Irish people mostly spoke English by the time of their independence with Gaelic only being spoken out in the rural west. And several early Irish Republicans were descendants of Protestant Anglos.

It was an idea for a new nation, one where Gaelgoir, English speaking Catholics and Old English Protestants, would all be collectively Irishmen in a new republic free of crown rule.
