France is the most heavily touristed country in the world by pure numbers (pic related, Japan is 14th btw), and it's even more staggering if you look at per-capita numbers. Obviously it doesn't excuse some nafri trying to rob or harass people, but expecting everyone to be smiling and friendly like you're at Disneyland is silly.

Depends a lot on the region and time of year. Summer in particular is a real shitshow. Here in P*ris you can expect a majority of tourists between the months of May and September, driving up the prices for rent, food, transportation etc with most flats being empty the rest of the year and locals having to live 3hrs away to find a place even remotely affordable. We have a TON of chinese and a growing number of indians. There are also a lot of europeans, especially germans.
But other places are fairly tourist-free or are only visited by nationals.
