I was serving conscription service why would I be there. Some people got to serve in Kursk but it was before shut hit the fan here. I served in patrol for a while, went on a trip to Yekaterinburg and then spent the rest of my service on guard duties.

its not about that. They still have to rotate units. They can't leave a unit in ukraine getting exhausted and burnt out indefinitely. They have to replace them with a fresh unit, so they can go back, rearm, refresh and prepare to return.

When I was in the army, most of the training we did was focused on Afghanistan. But my last year when I was a gunner on the M1126 Stryker, we did a range and we were shooting at targets that resembled BTR-80s

My grandfather was a captain in the tank forces, my father told me how in the 90's after the army duty, he borrowed a box of pistols and ammunition from the army and brought it home, but when our family moved to another place my father and grandfather buried the box in the woods and maybe it is still there somewhere.

I had the opprotunity to do a year in Korea if I had chosen to stay in the Army. I decided to get out. But looking back, I really wish I had went to Korea.

I enjoyed it up until the last three months when we had really nothing to do. No more combat training or days in the woods, just boring barracks stuff like drills, training new recruits or the occasional trip to the shooting range, which might sound fun but is actually the most dull shit you can imagine. I genuinely had days when my only required service was to show up for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The public PS3 got to see lots of use during that period. You'd never beat me in NHL 10.

Italian at home wind up reporting to German-speaking or mixed units after basic training, for a lot of special assignments—IT, comms, etc.

I was only shooting with a training device that fires SVD ammo. I didn't get a chance to really shoot an RPG because all the grenades went to the training of the mobilized. Later, when I was back in the regular company, I asked our lieutenant to put me in as a grenade launcher, but I backed out when I found out that machine gunners and grenade launchers go to night shootings every two days.

Most of the ones I served with were over 20 years old because you usually go into the military after school. Most of those who signed contracts from those I served with did so completely voluntarily. I've talked to guys about it and a lot of them say it's their only way to make money.

If you're an 18 year old kid conscript, did not volunteer to join the army, and your boss said to sign the paper so you do, and next thing you know youre being sent to Ukraine. You're not really a volunteer.

No. I was called in for "mönstring" (what we call the mental/physical assessment that checks if you're good for service) and got told to fuck off back home in like 10 minutes.

you actually seem to be right, i'll admit i only have basic knowledge on the topic but from quick reading there seem to be very harsh restrictions on people who have ar15 as in no extended mags, attachments and they can't be automatic (they have to be semi) etc. and they can be really hard to get because apparently you need to have years of experience with guns as a hobby to even have a chance for the license to be accepted and can't have a criminal record and so on
there are around 1.5 million guns people own here and 600k people have licenses to own one (over 10% of the population, less people own them in larger cities) but pretty sure that assault rifles make up a very tiny percent of the total amount of guns owned

I was called in, did the tests and failed both mental and physicals. Got my release paper, went back to the locker room and got bombarded with questions on how to "fail" the test but I just did everything honestly.
