Before I was like you, naive, thinking Luther was in the right, but now after reading some literature on the topic I conclude Luther was no different from the papacy. He just used religion as a political device and wanted, in fact, to unite Christianity but in his own faith rejecting pope's authority and thinking 'sola scriptura, what's written in the Bible must be true', but he didn't take into account that Bible is not some easy reader for children but highly sophisticated text that must be expounded by someone and only Common Church has this ability to do it all over the world as a strong and well-organised entity. Yes, it creates abuse and can be used to manipulate people, but it's better than hundreds of squabbling denominations that would kill each other because they interpreted one word in the Bible wrong.
