some argie flag used to make this exact thread every day, then a chilean would show up and they'd keep exchanging seemingly random anime pics for hours on end
then it suddenly stopped around 2y ago I think. god I have to leave this place

It looks a bit simple, but I can explain. Dortmund used to be a member of the North European Hanseatic Trade Union, so the flag is red and white, the colours of the Hanse.
Dortmund also didn't belong to any local dutchy or kingdom, it answered to the Kaiser alone - that's why the imperial Roman eagle is on the flag.

We don’t technically have a city flag, it’s a cantonal flag, but our canton (the smallest) consists of one small city, one posh suburban town, and a hill with a church, a TV tower, and a village’s worth of households. The city and the canton are synonymous and eponymous.

It’s one of the least interesting local flags in CH, IMO.
