Rabbinic Judaism isn't the same as Biblical Judaism that's divided in several stages (Patriarcal, Mosaic, Judges, Early Monarchy, Temple) and was consistent throughout history. Rabbinic Judaism is headless, they're very similar to protestants, some of them consider converts to be real Jews, others don't. Biblical Judaism considered converts to be as Jewish (or Israelite if you want to be more precise about pre-Judah/Samaria Israelites) as any other Jew, and the tribal affiliation came from the father, not the mother.

A "denomination" is an autonomous branch of anything. The Israelites never recognized autonomous branches because that brings disorder (like Samaria vs Judah/Jerusalem, Judah being the true head from the House of David). Judaism doesn't have a head, it's split into different denominations, each with their own beliefs, many contradicting each other.
