Most of these larger groups came decades ago and were imported by the governmet for work (turks are an example). It wasn't planned for them to stay, but they did and ended up having kids here. Somalis and some other groups are particular to the Scandis because their government took it in a bunch of refugees because that aligns with their values (they didn't plan for them to stay for as long as they did either, had 0 idea/plan how to assimilate them and didn't expect them to cause the amount of trouble they ended up doing).

The thing was that back when a lot of them came our governments weren't just bad assimilating people, they didn't want them to in the first place. We've only recently truned into the type of society that has a large amount of people that are truley fine with anyone from anywhere coming here in larger numbers so long as they learn the language, get a job and "become German". On the other hand, the country and its institutions are not nearly as segregated and racialized as in the US so that would make integrating those that are willing (the few that exist) easier if we adopted methods like denmark.

I think I like that about the USA, the fact that there's some social presure to fit into the american society while that doesn't exist that much in Europe. Having such a big global influence probably helps with assimilating people into the culture though. The fact that you're such an absolutely mess of ethnicities helps too
