Brazil has multiple master genres:
Samba, Bossa Nova, MPB, Forro, Sertanejo, even Maracatu but Brazilians seem afraid that if any music gets popular abroad it's automatically evil and bad. I half expect funk to be looked down upon in 10 years not for being favela garbage music but for being not Brazilian enough because it found a foreign audience. I just don't get why there's this weird schizophrenic hipsterism about your own genres at least that's what I noticed when I was there.
