I'd imagine it's like North Croatia and Slovenia. North Croatia for example is the most religious part of Croatia while Slovenia isn't that religious. Also in Slovenia most houses are plastered.
Maybe Prekmurje also has way more gypsies like Međimurje has here, which is a staple of Hungarian rule.
Also Prekmurje was historically under the Zagreb Diocese if I remember correctly and their dialect is more Croatian Kajkavian like that of Međimurje which sounds weird to other Slovenes.
