BMW is a fucking expensive brand still, have you ever bought a car? A basic X5 (the barebones model) starts from 85k EUR. That is like 8 years of the yearly avg net wage in Romania and like 3 years in the UK. A MUCH better equipped similar sized Hyundai or Honda costs 25k EUR less. And Hyundai/Honda is still far above the cheapest brands. BMW is a fucking expensive brand if you want a larger, better equipped car. You can very easily get above 100k EUR even without paying extra for the M version. That is not cheap no matter how you look at it

Yeah you can see a lot of BMWs in Romania with 200-300k kms, basic models and all sorts of Balkan streetracer rice. You cant see many brand new SUVs (no one buys Sedans anymore basically which is a shame imo) that costs 80-120k EUR, at least not the fraction you would see in richer countries

Eastern Europeans and Balkan people importing 20 year old cars does not make it any less of a premium brand. If you want to buy a brand new cars BMWs are going to be expensive than almost everything else on the market outside supercars, etc. They are in the same segment as Lexus and any other premium brand specifically targeting upper class people. The "normal" brands at Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, etc. then the cheapest brands are Suzuki, Dacia, etc. No one cares if people in the Balkan import a car with 200k kms

I just bought a car recently and BMWs (and Audi etc..) are very expensive if you want a non-womens sized car or something with more than like 150 hp.. You need to spend at least like 80k EUR to get some benefit over not just buying a standard Honda or something. It is very expensive, what people do around here is irrelevant, before BMWs people did the same with MK2 Golf, etc. it is pointless we are strictly talking about buying a brand new car
