I think that's too harsh a stance, just like Gandhi, Michael Collins didn't necessarily hate Britain but he wanted independence for his own country and peaceful relations with Britain. It's just a fact that Britain wasn't always in the right in disputes and conflicts.
I'm not suggesting we were in the right I know a lot of times we weren't but we simply shouldn't be honouring these people. Imagine if the USA put a statue of the Vietcong leader up in Washington DC because morally he was in the right, utter humiliation ritual.

More prudently the South for the last hundred years has been the primary source of manpower for the US military, the recent demonizing of the Confederacy and by extension their ancestors is probably the single biggest cause of the recruitment crisis we're experiencing.
